I bought a kit! Batiks
I never have bought a kit for a quilt. But I fell in love with a package of half yard batik cuts and needed a project to take with me on vacation. So I broke down and bought the kit. It should be fun to work on over the holidays and I'll post pics as I go along. I don't have many batiks, so this will expand my stash in this area as well.

Happenings
The Sunday Artisan market was snow day last Sunday,so I spent the day doing other things. Wednesday I was a vendor at the VA hospital where I work. A number of work acquaintances came by. Last night I made a backpack from a pair of jeans and finished up a bib for a friend's baby. Sherry suggested the backpack.

A cold first day at the Sunday Artisan's Market
Sunday, December 5th was my first day at the Artisan's Market. I can only say I'm really looking forward to spring. It was windy - so after carefully putting my quilts on the table, they blew away. Everyone helped to grab the items and using boards, my sewing machine, and a bottle of windshield cleaner we managed to figure out how to keep things from blowing away.
George helped me set up and man the booth for the day. I had a chance to meet other artisans and to talk with some potential customers. There were few people braving the cold to look at the Artisan's Market. I still enjoyed this immensely and learned a few things. First is that I need to keep my things from blowing away and I'm going to work on my display for the spring.

Consignments at the Blue House
The Blue House is located in Ann Arbor and is a meeting and learning place for arts and crafts. I met last week with the owner and placed some items there on consignment, including several of my dolls.

December arrives!
There is a bit of snow outside, just a dusting. I've been making little pouch purses, wallets, and gift card holders over the past month or so - perfecting the techniques. A pattern is in the works. Patterns are made for several different items, and I'm in the process of writing up directions and getting the best photos that will show how to make these. This week, I've moved from using plain cloth to making small decorative quilted pieces and then making the wallets out of them. This makes it a lot more fun for me and they look great. I'll add more photos in another post.

My first blog posting. Hello everyone!
I've just completed setting up the blog for Mary Hogan Fiber Arts. I started MHFA about a year ago so that I would have an outlet for my creative energy. Yesterday I worked on developing more creative wallets; making special quilted pieces with piecing, couching of threads, decorative stitching - anything I can think of to make a unique and beautiful piece.
Today I went back to making a zippered bag, again using unique quilted pieces. I feel like thus is an important step forward. Not just inventing and improving the bags patterns, but also making each one really special.
I also worked on the patterns themselves and made a bunch of freezer paper templates for dolls and bags.
I need to get some pictures in here.
